ARTIST BIO
Su Chun Chuan (b. 1979, Taiwan) is a Taipei-based artist whose practice centers on painting. He is known for his dreamlike landscapes, through which he develops a distinctive visual language that moves between inner states and the natural world, pointing toward a psychological space situated between perception and the subconscious.
Rather than depicting the visible world, Su constructs “inner landscapes” shaped by memory and imagination. Formally, he reduces perspective and conventional light, employing simplified forms and expansive fields of color to build spatial structures. Working with layered acrylic glazes, he renders animals, plants, and terrains as self-luminous presences. In this context, light is no longer a natural phenomenon but becomes a manifestation of inner energy.
In series such as The Floating Horizon and The Invisible Wings, recurring elements—including unicorns, the sun, and the moon—form a shifting symbolic system that speaks to inner strength and dual forces. These motifs remain open-ended, allowing meaning to emerge through the act of viewing.
Su received his BFA from Taipei National University of the Arts and a degree in Visual Communication from Pratt Institute, New York. His work sustains emotional tension beneath a restrained and inward visual surface, continuing to explore painting as a space that can be entered—an inner terrain of experience.
ARTIST STATEMENT
My work originates from early childhood experience.
I grew up in a family environment marked by sustained emotional tension. For me, painting did not begin as a form of expression, but as a way of temporarily stepping away from reality—a means of entering another space. Within that space, external conflicts receded, replaced by a brief but genuine sense of stability.
Over time, this experience became the foundation of my practice. I no longer depict real landscapes, but instead construct “inner landscapes” that can be entered. These spaces emerge from the interweaving of memory, emotion, and imagination, extending internal states into a visual form.
I do not rely on traditional perspective or external light to structure the image. Instead, I reduce forms to their essentials and allow color to carry emotional weight. Light in my paintings does not come from an outside source; it arises gradually from within the image itself. For me, it is closer to a manifestation of inner strength, as well as a gesture of self-protection.
My work is often perceived as calm or even therapeutic. Yet this sense of calm is not an escape from reality, but a temporary balance formed in the presence of unease. I do not seek to fix meaning. Rather, I hope these landscapes can function as open spaces—where viewers may pause, and at some moment, encounter their own emotional reflections.

蘇俊銓（1979年生於台灣）是一位現居台北的藝術家，主要從事繪畫創作。他以帶有夢境質地的風景畫建立出獨特的視覺語彙，使畫面游移於內在精神與外在自然，並指向一種介於感知與潛意識的精神性場域。
其創作不以再現可見自然為目的，而是透過記憶與想像生成「內在風景」。在形式上，他刻意弱化透視與光影系統，以簡化的造型語言與大面積色域建構空間，並以丙烯顏料進行多層次薄塗，使畫面中的動物、植物與地景呈現為自體發光的存在。此種對「光」的處理，將其從自然現象轉化為內在能量的顯現。
在《The Floating Horizon》與《The Invisible Wings》等系列中，獨角獸、太陽與月亮等元素構成持續變動的象徵系統，指向內在力量與二元張力。這些符號並未被固定於單一詮釋，而是維持開放性，使意義在觀看過程中生成。
蘇俊銓畢業於國立臺北藝術大學美術學系與紐約 Pratt Institute 視覺傳達學系。他的創作在節制而內斂的視覺表層之下保留情緒張力，持續探索繪畫作為一種「可被進入的內在空間」的可能性。
創作自述
我的創作來自童年時期的經驗。 成長於一個情緒長期處於緊繃狀態的家庭環境之中，對我而言，繪畫最初並不是表達，而是一種讓自己暫時離開現實的方法——一種進入另一個空間的方式。在那個空間裡，外在的衝突被隔絕，取而代之的是一種短暫但真實的安定。
這樣的經驗逐漸轉化為我創作的基礎。我不再描繪現實存在的風景，而是試圖建構一種可以被進入的「內在風景」。這些風景來自記憶、情感與想像的交織，是內在狀態的延伸。
我不依循傳統的透視與光影來建構畫面，而是將形體簡化，讓色彩成為承載情感的主要方式。在這樣的狀態之中，光不再來自外部，而是從畫面內部緩慢生成——對我而言，那更接近一種內在力量的顯現，也是一種自我保護的方式。
我的作品常被認為帶有平靜或療癒的氛圍。但對我來說，那種平靜並不是對現實的逃避，而是在不安之中暫時建立的平衡。我不試圖給出明確的意義，而是希望這些風景能成為一個開放的空間，使觀看者得以停留，並在某個時刻，與自身的感受產生連結。
